I have the same game and the exact same thing happened, but instead of a picture of my family it just showed a picture of me I posted on facebook when I had first joined.
And those things about how your picture rots after you die ingame don't happen, you just find the picture of luigi hanging himself then you see the picture of you/your family.
If you can edit the game it's honestly not hard.
Find out the adress of where your sending the disk to.
Find out who lives there.
Narrow down to who is probably buying the game(youngest kid 6+)
Find a picture of them
Edit the portrait.
