Yoooouuuu want people to think for themselves about music, not just follow the crowd when it comes to musical tastes by listening only to music dubbed popular.
Listen to more than one genre to increase their musical knowledge and thereforce increasing the... strength of their opinion... (and I suppose you don't want people to talk about the Beatles at that but we wont go into that right now).
Find music for yourself, music you've never even heard of. Listen to it. Give it a go. If you don't like it, find something else. Educate yourself in music and don't be quick to judge.
