ROBLOX has always been known for having smooth, boring, flat surfaces. When materials were released, this was changed. Materials have maps that give an illusion of depth via two textures, a diffuse map for color and a normal map for depth. You can see the depth well when using a material such as the diamond-studded steel. Notice how the studded area 'bumps' up. I would like ROBLOX to add a new object type: TextureMap, that will allow us to use normal and bump maps. It will have the following properties.- Name: [TextureMap] TextureID: [www.roblox.com/{id of decal}] DiffuseTexID: [www.roblox.com/{id of decal}] (as shown above, this colors the texture) Position: [ Top/Front/Back/Bottom/Left/Right ] Influence: [0-2] (affects strength of map) Bump Map [•] (affected by greyscale maps and uses bump mapping techniques) Normal Map [•] (affected by normal mapping techniques) These can also be overlaid upon regular decals, which will automatically turn the decal into a diffuse map. Before you complain about this turning 'ROBL0XOR INTU REALBLOX' or something similar, that's really a baseless argument unless you can prove HOW it somehow ruins ROBLOX.

Well it sounds coolio.. people might start making cool puzzle decals were you use 2 to find a picture then again people could sneak in bad pictures that way... I don't really get it but as long as it doesn't use the the 2 to make hidden pictures its ok.

@sepheal Let me explain further; the normal/bump map just adds detail to simulate depth; the diffuse map is for color.

it's 2016, everything from an ipad to a gaming pc can handle normal maps, come on roblox, I have no idea how hard it is to render normal maps real time, as even today the blender foundation still struggles to add normal mapping to the view port but that was because they are working with Open GL You guys on the other hand, are working with Direct x, Please just make this happen. =Hard Surface 3D modeller of VGC=

totally support ! -ps. if ya would just take a short look at Michal Benátsky´s youtube channel then ya would find out that he even succesfully tried to implement pghysical based rendering (PBR) into roblox !!!!!!! So someone please make a real legit petition for the roblox company so that they add those awesome graphics to roblox ->as optional features ... I REALLY seriously mean as serious as a human can mean something on this damnit planet --->WHY THE HECK shouldnt they give us those graphics as optional features !!!!!!!!!?????????
