I like Synyster Gates, for electric guitar.
But you aren't considering classical guitarists. I've met three classical guitarists who were amazing, better than 99% of all electric guitarists. The only one of them whom I knew their name was Christopher McGuire. The other two were a couple from Germany, who played for the Queen of England and my classical guitar class. |

He could play with his teeth.. Wow that does not show any skill.
Eddie Van Halen had more breakthroughs then Jimi Hendrix and is FASTER than Jimi, So therefore Eddie Van Halen is better. =3
Kurt Cobain is NOT the best guitarist either.
Neither is Herman Li, he is a joke that speeds up songs. |

jimi can light a guitar on fire with his bare hands(woodstock) he also can play a double neck behind his back and still do awesome solos, also he can sing.Can eddie van halen do any of that NO!!!!! |

Frufy, Jimi Hendrix is considered the best by many people because he did so many things with the guitar at the time, that without him, most guitarists would have never played guitar, which would include Eddie Van Halen. Eddie is an amazing guitar player too, but he wouldn't be playing guitar if it wasn't for Jimi.
I do agree that Kurt Cobain is not the best guitar player (he's a great songwriter, but not a great guitarist), and that Herman Li is very overrated (he's not a bad guitarist, but he's VERY sloppy, especially live), and that Slash is also overrated as well (good guitar player, but there are hundreds who are better than him).

first of all, jimi did not start guitar playing, black sabbath started that kinda music, however they r not the best. the best there is is: kirk hammet, eddy vanhalen, andd mick thompson. especially kirk hammet. this is what he can do: he can play an awesome guitar solo while, riding a tricycle through 10 rings of fire, shaving with one of his feet his feet, taking the nose ring he has out with his tongue, and talking on his phone with his girlfriend. thank u very much. |

skittledude, the Jimi Hendrix Experience's first album, Are You Experienced, came out in 1967, three years before Black Sabbath's self titled debut. Eddie Van Halen is amazing, Mick Thompson is pretty good, but Kirk Hammett is just an okay guitar player. He can do some good solos, but he probably couldn't do what you said above. Amazing guitar players (who are way better than Kirk) include John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Angelo Batio, Steve Vai, and Kirk Hammett's guitar teacher, Joe Satriani.
Dime is awesome by the way, and while he can't sweep as fast as Petrucci or Yngwie, his divebombs and harmonics add emotion and feeling to his solos. |
