It all depends on your style of playing. I would focus on memorizing chords and scales, because both are very important to all guitar players.

Speed Pick,Tapping,Whammy Effects Speed Pick=To Speed Pick just Pick the strings really fast Tapping=If you have seen some metal videos that have the guitarist using their right hand on the fret board(or left hand on the fretboard). That is called Tapping and you need strength to do tapping. Whammy Effects=If you bring the Whammy Bar Up or Down it creates a weird sound that is called a effect. To do a Whammy Effect just Bring the Whammy Bar up or down while playing a Fret,Chord,Solo.

A friend of mine taught me and here's what he told me: Learn the major and minor chords first. Practice this picking excersice routine: E------------------------------------------------1-2-3-4------ B--------------------------------------1-2-3-4---------------- G-----------------------------1-2-3-4------------------------ D--------------------1-2-3-4--------------------------------- A-----------1-2-3-4----------------------------------------- E--1-2-3-4------------------------------------------------- Go online and search for some TAB music sheets, they'll help you learn techniques.

Ehh... I wouldn't play country music on an electric unless its Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, etc. If you've never played any guitar, you should get an acoutic. It's easier to play and can help you play electric better.

actually, acoustic is supposed to be harder....besides, if I set the effects 2 phaser, it starts to sound like an alternative song....i could change the words...i am a songwriter after all....
