Ok. So here's my opinion on the ongoing BC vs. NBC war, all it's factors, the tactics, and who is ultimately right in all of this.
But first, we must start at the very beginning. Roblox was launched in 2006. As far as I know, there has always been BC and NBC. For a few years, there was little to no tension. Then, Roblox gained popularity, and users were joining left and right. An admin once wrote, "you will never be able to visit every single game on Roblox because of how many are being created every day." So begins Roblox's way of generating more revenue. With so many users, it seemed like common sense to simply give more features to the BC members. NBCers understood that they were lucky to be playing for free. But the initial causes of this everlasting war, were the bait-and-switch, and the newer memberships.
The bait-and-switch tactic is basically showing someone shiny, new, awesome features, letting it get within their grasp, then jerking back and demanding something in return. In other words, teasing a baby with candy. Roblox publicized all sorts of new things they were releasing. A FANTASTIC example of this is the character bodies. Here are a few quotes from an article they wrote about the bodies:
"A selection of body parts *will* be available to all members at a future date (not just BC members)."
"We’re going to be monitoring game performance to make sure that body parts don’t create framerate issues or lag. For this reason, initially there will not be too many different bodies to choose from. We’ve also decided to make body parts a BC Beta feature.
A “BC Beta Feature” is a feature that isn’t quite ready for use by everyone, so we ask our BC members to give it a whirl and help us to work out the kinks."

Here in these exact copy and paste quotes from Builderman and Telamon, they say that a selection will be available to NBCers. To date, Roblox has lied about this. One partial body has been released to NBC, and it only works for the fewer girls who play Roblox. NBCers had a good reason to be pissed about this. They had a justified reason.
Then, in the midst of growing tensions, Roblox decides to plop down 2 new memberships. (After they said they wouldn't). So now you have an aroused populace. To date, Roblox hasn't been making any good updates either, compounding the loss of good, experienced users.
So now, what we must look into is the standard reactions of the masses.
NBCers claim that they are users too.
BCers claim that they deserve more for keeping Roblox alive with their money.
Who is right, or justified?
Both.
NBCers are Roblox players. Although they don't pay for their membership, they should be treated as potential buyers of BC by ROBLOX. This does NOT mean Roblox should use the classic bait-and-switch. This does NOT mean the admins shouldn't care about NBCers.

Now BCers are also correct. They are what is keeping the business alive. Businesses need money. And yes, they did pay for their features. However, Roblox is making it FAAAR too easy for them to rub it in. (I.e. BC games, BC tags, etc)
So now... Who is ultimately the winner here..?
No one.
Unfortunately, there is no fine balance between making everyone happy, and keeping Roblox a stable company.
The reason?
No one is perfect. We are all going to want more. And if we don't get it, by golly we'll blame the ones in charge, even if it is their fault.
But my suggestion, to Roblox, try your best to make it perfect. You had it right back in the old days.
Now PLEEEASE don't judge me for this. I've been NBC, I've been BC. I know what both sides feel like. I tried to find the medium between the three sides, and who is ultimately responsible. If you don't agree, that's your opinion. You may have a different view on this. But this is mine.

Alex, I have to agree. I have experienced both as well. I was NBC longer than i have been BC. ROBLOX does make it easy for us BCers to rub it in, but that is why I don't like to visit BC games. I think games shouldn't say: "You can't play because you're NBC." In short, it is NBC discrimination. |
