What are connectors?

When I open up a place, it lists how many bricks there are and how many connectors there are as the place generates. My questions are, what are connectors, what do they do, and how are they used?

Connectors connect bricks and are good for un anchored bricks (Move-able bricks) and can be broken from explosions. Connectors are useless for anchored bricks (Non-move-able bricks).
