The US Constitution is either not being taught, or simply being ignored. The Bill of Rights(The 6th Amendment, to be exact) states that ALL people, non-dependent on race, gender, or background, have the right to a fair, and sometimes quick, trial. Killing them makes us no better than a terrorist. Stripping them of their rights makes us no better than people who hijack planes and crash them into buildings. EVERYONE, no matter WHAT they did to get into trial, deserves a fair trial, with all rights provided by the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and all the additional Amendments. If it's their religion that they're killing for, you can't simply jail them for being Muslim or any other religion. And furthermore, the death penalty should be used only in severe situations. A simple murder should not cause someone to be put to death. Mass murder or any crimes of that severity deserve punishment as such. There MAY be a day when people are stripped of their rights and jailed after a mere 11 minutes, and abandon all hope on our leaders, but that day is NOT today, nor will it be any other day as long as I have a say in it. |
