I’ve always wanted to host a local server on my network, like a private server, but I can’t.
And I don’t want to use whitelisting scripts, because that’s like banning everyone, and it lags servers a little bit, which can ruin some games.
So I’ve thought of adding a feature to Studio that allows LAN servers, so only people on your network can join.
So, how will you use this feature you ask? Well I’ll tell you. In Studio, open a place, any from your local files, then go to the Tools list. There will be a new dropdown list called “LAN Servers”. In there, there will be “Host Place”, “Join hosted Server”, and “Join another Server (LAN)”.
Host Place is self-explanatory, except for one thing: You can name the server, and tweak some settings such as max players, description, and a banned list (Because of this, you have to be signed into ROBLOX to join LAN servers), etc.
Join hosted Server joins the server you are hosting.
Join another Server brings up a list of servers that are being hosted on the network.
If you are hosting a server, you can use the studio camera to look around. If hosting, you cannot save or edit in studio.
How will you stop as server?
In tools, a button that is usually greyed out will be usable: “Stop Server”. Self-Explanatory.
