The Magicians is a new game in progress based on mouse gesture recognition. This prominent feature is used in order to identify the spell desired by the caster and can recognize circles, lines, and points. Other features include a new humanoid with poly-joint limbs, and an animation system which allows fancy effects. At present, the base engine is just about complete. The primary thing left to do is to implement the spells. Suggestions? Questions? Post them here. -God Bless-

What type of spells are there exactly?

That's something very much up for discussion at the moment. Preferably, most spells will be dynamic and influence the environment in some way or another. -God Bless-

How about you had some conjuration spells? A spell that can spawn something from oblivion that could help in return, such as spawning a sword, or a friendly companion. Maybe some Altercation spells? That can change something that is being triggered by the spell, maybe something that could increase a friends speed, or their health, which will help out the team work aspect of the game. P.S: What type of game is it anyways? An RPG?

The spells range from combat to utility to building to just goofing off. Emphasis on transporation (be it teleportation or just building a bridge) and combat spells. Summoning/transforming would be ideally kept to a minimum; I have to make an entire new model for each form and an AI for summons. In the end though, transformations (Frog, giant, midget, etc) are relatively easy to do. Summons.... Summons are difficult, and, moreover, costly. The animation script is local, and thus causes minimal lag. Were it applied to summons, it would have to be global, resulting in horrific lag. Some summons are far easier to do than others: summoning a flying sword to join you in battle is a piece of cake. Summoning a stone knight to protect you is harder. Summoning a wizard to fight alongside you is NOT something that would work well. So, in conclusion for summons: non-animated, flying summons generally result in easy to do things that are simple for the server to handle. Spells that spawn various things (From fire balls to bridges) will be quite common. Also common will be spells that manipulate the environment: causing the water from a nearby lake to freeze into a hurling shard of ice or making a gigantic barrier of stone from the ground below. (See above for summoning things.) What do you mean by altercation spells? Teamwork is something that I will confess I had not thought about. Hopefully, I will make a GUI to regulate teams. Buffing spells (Haste, magic might, etc) and transformation spells will probably be applicable to teammates, possibly with another GUI for consent. The game genre really isn't defined. There will be brickbattle elements, some RPG elements (saving stats, having to work to use the most powerful spells, etc.), but in the end, it will most closely resemble a sandbox, or so's the hope. -God Bless-

All right. A testable version is now available: http://www.roblox.com/The-Magicians-place?id=291194 It should not have TOO many bugs. -God Bless-

All right. Added another spell. Spell ideas are really welcome at present. Recipes for spells: Shock: 3 lines, shaped like a lightning bolt, but sideways, not vertical. Barrier: 3 lines, shaped like a wall: Up-over-down. -God Bless-

I have some Ideas: Supression : Do a Circle and then make a Vertical line in it. It fires a barrage of Ice Shards for 10 Seconds Combustion : Do a Circle and then Click in it as many times as you can in 5 Seconds. Those Times will be the Damage made to any person in a 50 Stud Range multiplied by 2. Barrage : 5 Vertical Lines and 5 Horizontal Lines to make like a Grid. The Spell Makes a Barrier around you that can't be Destroyed or penetrated for 15 Seconds.

Interesting concepts, but I'm trying for spells that influence the environment a lot. On that note, I added another spell: Expell. It flings players and objects away from the point of expulsion. -God Bless-

noobertuber, I actually had this idea back in 2010, but at that time, I never knew how to script so, I let it go. But now, you reminded me of it. Initially, I wanted my GUIs to work with mouse recognition, that way, it would has a cool effect for touchscreens. ☜▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☜☆☞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☞ - Candymaniac, a highly reactive substance.

It's not the most original idea, I know, but the way its implemented (as well as the difficulty of scripting it) makes it a very unique game. How would it influence touchscreens, by the way? On a different note, I massively improved the movement system; it's now almost perfect! -God Bless-

Expel seems to work now. I changed how it works around because roblox dislikes my scripts. -God Bless-

I came up with a method for blocking, but haven't implemented it yet; I want to get a little feedback. Here's the idea: Press R to activate the shield. any projectile or beam coming at you will be blocked... with exceptions. The power of your block is determined by a few things, including a spell (Not an official spell, but you do get to make little patterns for it) and your wisdom. Keeping the block up would drain your mana. You would only block in the direction your mouse was facing. The size of your block would depend on the same factors as its strength. The block would ONLY work on direct attacks, such as shock. Whether an enemies spell would get through your block would depend on quite a few factors as well. Also, I need a tester to determine whether expell is working correctly, or whether I need to switch to a non-local script. -God Bless-

My brother has a touchscreen laptop, and it's cool because when you touch the screen, the mouse follows. In this game, you mean like, if you put the mouse into a circle motion, that would mean if you make a circle with your fingers on a touchscreen, it would mean the same thing. I was thinking of a UI that uses mouse recognition to let's say, move around the menu. Also, make cool effects pl0x. ☜▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☜☆☞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☞ - Candymaniac, a highly reactive substance.

When on a touch screen, what's the difference between moving and clicking the mouse?

@k00lkid, the hardware of the touchscreen and the drivers are the ones responsible, so if you were to swipe your finger, roblox would detect it as a normal mouse moving whereas if you tap your finger roblox would assume it as button1down... i think

I just made a rather significant update. Shield SHOULD now work, and have all of its features implemented... But I will need someone to help me test it. Added a few other minor things also. -God Bless-
