Let's say you post a thread going against a topic. Everyone that posts likes that topic so you get in an out of control flame war. So then you lock it so theres no more argueing. Also only the creator of that thread can lock it.

People argue with reason and logic,

Threads die out easily, meaning they'll be out of reach from the public eventually.
Though if its a really serious threat, then the mods will take action.
You can lock the thread anytime you want, but without reason it seems like you cannot handle negative comments. Everyone is a critic, but you can't lock a thread immediately after it was created. |

Its not abuseable, considering you can lock you're OWN and not others. |

It would work better if user-locked threads were displayed as such.
Mod-locked threads would keep the current symbol, user-locked threads would get something new.
