It was twenty years after the Great War. World War I. The imperial kaiser's army, after four years of bloody, trench warfare, had been defeated by the combined French, British, and American soldiers. This huge war ended the Russian, Austria-Hungarian, German, and Ottoman empires. In 1917, Russia withdrew from the war, because of an uprising. However, later on, the rebellion won, and the czar was overthrown. The Soviet Union was established. At the end of world war II, Germany suffered from inflation. The value of its currency, the mark, decreased. By 1923, one US dollar cost 4,200,000,000,000 marks. The Great Inflation ended in 1924. In a few years, though, Germany, and many other countries in the world would be hit, by an even worse economic crisis--the Great Depression.
The Weimar republic of Germany was filled with parties. One of them, the National Socialist German Workers' Party, grew in power in the 1930s. Paul von Hindenburg reluctantly appointed Adolf [INSERT LAST NAME HERE] as chancellor. However, when he died in 1934, [YOU-KNOW-WHO] took control of Germany. He ignored the treaty of Versailles, which was the one that ended WWI. The treaty was harsh and prevented Germany from doing somethings, but Great Britain and France did nothing, afraid of starting another World war. The new dictator began building up his military and named it the Wehrmacht. He occupied Austria, the first of his bloodless conquests, and later the Sudetenland area of Czechoslovakia. He later seized the rest of it.
Now, you can lead a country of your choice. Will you lead it to victory and prosperity? Or death and destruction?
