IndustrialCraft is a mod that adds a few ores, a new tree (rubber trees), and cables to state a few.
BuildCraft adds stuff like pipes and engines.
RedPower is cool. It adds volcanoes and marble in the landscape, and it changes redstone logic as well.
Equivalent Exchange puts stuff at a certain value in a currency called EMC. Like diamonds are 8,172 EMC. Dirt is 1 EMC, so with 8172 dirt, you can make 1 diamond.
