To be honest, Metroid gets the right amount of praise. They hardly release any new games, and when they do, it's just a disappointment. It's like FE's bad counterpart.

" It's like FE's bad counterpart." how the heck is FE anything like Metroid.

They're both small franchises made by Nintendo. They both only get one release every few years. Their library is really small. The only difference is that FE is actually fun with a nice storyline and music, where as the only thing holding up Metroid is all the fanboys fantasizing about Samus.

yeah except the gameplay isn't even remotely similar, so I'm not even sure why anyone would ever compare them. also, gameplay-wise, Fire Emblem is incredibly frustrating. Not what I'd call "fun." I often wish I could just skip the gameplay and just focus on the plot.

It's a strategy RPG. What do you expect? It's MEANT to be long and frustrating, because you're suppose to actually think. I remember taking well over an hour on the later chapters. But hey, gamers nowadays prefer to be spoonfed everything and not have to think at all. They'd rather be mindlessly shooting at people and getting killstreaks.

Can someone please tell me why we're changing the subject?

"What do you expect? It's MEANT to be long and frustrating" No game is MEANT to be frustrating. That wouldn't be a game. It would be a psychological torture simulator. An example of a good tactical strategy game, with ridiculous difficulty would be X-COM UFO Defense. You go into a battle with 10 agents, you leave with 3 alive. Despite how blatantly difficult it is, it doesn't get frustrating because your soldiers are incredibly expendable. Something Fire Emblem does not do.

Permadeath IS what makes Fire Emblem...well, Fire Emblem. It's supposed to make you actually care about your units unlike other games, where you can just toss them aside as sacrifices. Besides, completing the game with 0 deaths isn't as hard as you would think. Besides, the new one, Awakening, is having the option to remove permadeath for all the scrubs that can't appreciate a good game mechanic.
