Well all I could say is Cantonese is REALLY quite of a challenge to learn. And along with it you might need to learn Traditional Chinese characters as well. |

Traditional Chinese characters are better to learn.
Almost every characters have a 'history'.
Just have a bit more imagination and you will understand them.
From an image to a character, it is easy to understand why those traditional characters are written as that.
Example : 山 (mountain)
The image was like a mountain with 3 hills when this character haven't exist yet. After many years, it transformed to this character.
One more example : 羊 (sheep)
It was like a sheep with 2 horns.
Another example : 口 (mouth) and 土 (mud)
You will get it when you open your mouth. And because you can get mud on the ground, so the 'mud' character is like 'something on the ground'.
So, what you think about 「吐」 means?
Obviously, it means puke.
If you don't understand why it means puke, try eating mud and I am pretty sure why it means puke.
Special stuff : 一(one), 二(two), 三(three)。
No need to explain much right? 1 stroke, 2 strokes and 3 strokes.
It is entertaining and easy to learn traditional Chinese characters.
But you won't understand how simplified Chinese characters come from.
Example : 門, 门.
Both mean door. You may guess the first one is made with 2 doors.
How about the other one?
Nor I know how it came from.

When he says Cantonese, he's obviously referring to the spoken language.
Most simplified Chinese are either transformed from grass/cursive script or has been used historically as an archaic character. Either if it's the formal way of writing it or not, it still has a long history. |

lol pleassseee. Even Mandarin Chinese speakers find each other annoying. There are different accents and dialects everywhere you go. Beijing is flooded with migrants from all over China. Some people don't even speak Mandarin Chinese.
My dad and I was at the Beijing train station trying to buy a ticket to our hometown up in the far northeast (we speak Mandarin Chinese with a really ghetto accent). Then suddenly this guy in front of us in line was saying this to the ticket seller in broken Mandarin Chinese: "huh I don't understand what you're saying please say again" like for a gazillion times.
We northerners don't care. Hong Kong is like another planet for us. Stop hating bro. Learn to appreciate!

Well the simplified Chinese characters only appeared for about a century and a few decades. It doesn't look logical about different things compared to the traditional characters (of course except those characters of which have not been changed). |
