The economy has been going down since a year after GWB got elected, and just this morning Dow Jones went up over a hundred points.

In 2005 the Dow Jones was at record highs. I believe this was during GB presidency. Okay now bear with me I will explain in a condensed version why the economy went down the toilet.
1. It started with laws passed in 1974 and 1999 that basically allowed banks to loan to "risky people". At the same time mortgage companies offered adjustable rate mortgages. This was all fine and dandy until a couple of years ago when interest rates went up. Now "risky" homeowners have a mortgage that the shouldn't have gotten and higher interest. The people can't afford it and they foreclose. The bank's capital is mainly in real estate. When a homeowner forecloses on a property the bank loses money. They are forced to sell the house cheaper than it is worth. Thus bringing all of the property values in the area down. Thus destroying the building industry. Okay now these banks are losing capital quickly. Then they go into bankruptcy. When this happens it causes confidence in the stock market to crash. That makes people sell. This makes the stock market fall. There are also other reasons but this is a major one.
Why it is going back up:
People begin to regain confidence in the market. This is most likely because of the bailouts which will only delay the problem. |

Move to Oregon! It's not THAT rainy. And it gets really hot in the summer, so you can go to the beach! Also, the United States is known for making the best movies! |

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure India makes the most, but I don't know about who makes the best, which is NOTHING but a matter of opinion. You can say that the US has the best movies, but others may not, because of their opinion. Get it? |

lemmie clear some things up:
U.S.A. is NOT, the richest country in the world (they 9th out of 183) but it does indeed have the largest middle class. Those who say we the richest need to look at its trillions of debts.
For those who say the U.S. pollutes, how bout u fix the world depression and bring the stock market up a good +3000 pts and we talk about thems investing in research.
Yes, we do have FEW allies, but we have a billion mile line of people who hate us (maybe a million mile line since GWB went out of office) mostly because we took their money, promised to pay them back, and when tax collecting time came for the US, we like, "We don't have your moneez, sorry ^.^"
The United States is by far the most culturaly diverse 1st world country, but because of that its got the most people incriminated (Jailed), that and because they abuse their freedoms...
uhm... thats about it other than we are an aggressive country! :D |

Don't worry about the natural disaster stuff, earthquakes that don't even register on the richter scale are about every 2 seconds.
I live in Tornado Alley, we don't get any tornadoes during non-tornado season. Pretty cold in the winter... |
