"You think people enjoyed living in communist dictatorships?" Quoting a cuban national. "In general, both Fidel and Raul are liked and supported by Cubans. Raul more so than Fidel, because he has opened up access to things like communications, real estate, business, and personal ownership of expensive items. Life in Cuba is actually quite good. Because of my fiance, I do enjoy the perks of a Cuban (versus a tourist), and I have received EXCELLENT health care (far better than in Canada), have seen their education system in effect, know that almost everyone is employed (the unemployment rate is 1.8%), and see that everyone leads a much happier life than anyone here at home. Government is widely, and publicly discussed. Many Cubans are very passionate about Castro - in a positive sense."

What the hell are you talking about? explain to me what a republic is
gamert7
#84655294Tuesday, December 18, 2012 6:10 PM GMT

"We may define a republic to be ... a government which derives all its powers directly or indirectly from the great body of the people, and is administered by persons holding their offices during pleasure for a limited period, or during good behavior. It is essential to such a government that it be derived from the great body of the society, not from an inconsiderable proportion or a favored class of it; otherwise a handful of tyrannical nobles, exercising their oppressions by a delegation of their powers, might aspire to the rank of republicans and claim for their government the honorable title of republic."
