Very recently, I have been looking around online, and I ran into multiple reviews for ROBLOX. One of the main ideas of these reviews is that parents want to be involved with their children while playing ROBLOX, such as watching what games they play, what they read on the forums, etc. There is one issue with this, though; parent accounts seem to have left ROBLOX. When I use the account I believe to have been the linked account to mine and my sister, it directs me to a new ROBLOXian setup instead of the parent account main page.
Before I begin my ideas for the Parent Accounts, I suggest that ROBLOX does bring back the Parent Account option. Though many people do not use it, it can possibly attract younger players (and their families) into joining ROBLOX and possibly purchasing Builder’s Club.
==========================================================
Suggestion One: ROBLOX e-notifications
Parents want to be involved with their children when they play online games, and these notifications is a common way for parents to keep up with their children. Using the Parent Account control panel, parents can choose how often they want to receive the notifications and for what things. A parent can receive a daily/weekly/monthly report on the games their children recently played, items bought, and total amount of hours spent on ROBLOX. Parents can also choose to receive a separate e mail for any moderation actions taken against their children’s accounts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an example of a basic idea of what a weekly report might look like:
Subject: Weekly ROBLOX Report for Acebatonfan
Games Recently Played:
-Medieval Roleplay-V4.6 by Tecmagdiams (there will be a link to both the game and the game creator’s profile)
-Build a House and Live Rich by Voxhall
Friends Recently Made:
-BestMissPurple (there will be a link to this user’s profile)
Items Recently Bought:
-Violet Star Assassin by ROBLOX (there will also be a link for this)
Time spent this week on ROBLOX: 5 hours, 34 minutes
At the very bottom of the report, there will be a link saying: LOCK THIS CHILD’S ACCOUNT and BLOCK SPECIFIC CONTENT ON THIS ACCOUNT (Will be discussed later).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an example of a moderation notification:
Subject: Notification of Acebatonfan’s Actions on ROBLOX
Acebatonfan was recently banned for seven days due to violating the ROBLOX Rules by being rude to other ROBLOXians. She can re-activate her account on August 3, 2012.
At the very bottom of the report, there will be a link saying: LOCK THIS CHILD’S ACCOUNT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With this option, parents will not have to log in daily to their parent account in order to see what their children are doing. Parents will also have the option of not including certain parts of the weekly report and/or not receiving any type of notifications at all.
==========================================================
Suggestion Two: Account Disable
Things happen in the real world; you get in trouble, you do something that upsets your parents, etc. With this option, parents who have their child linked to them through a Parent Account can temporarily disable their child’s account for a certain amount of time, preventing the child from using it. A parent can disable an account from their Parent Account control panel or by clicking on the link through their e notifications. A parent can disable the account for up to seven days, and if the child was banned when the disable was made, the parental disable will begin once the ban ends.
If a child tries to access his/her locked account, a notification will pop up similar to what happens when you get banned. The notification will say: Your account has been disabled by your parent until (insert date here).” Once that time passes, the child will be able to re-activate his/her account.
==========================================================
Suggestion Three: Blocking Certain Content
You didn’t know little Billy was being mean to other people at Welcome to ROBLOXia. You didn’t know Jane played a combat game when you told her not to until you saw it in your notification. With this feature, parents will be able to block their children from playing a certain game or genre or games, purchasing specific gears, viewing forum places like OT, posting in specific forums (or at all). The parent will be able to access this in their Parent Account control panel or through the link in the e notification.
For parent accounts, there will be a link under “favorite” called “Block This Item.” When the parent clicks on it, a GUI will be pulled up with all the children linked to them. They will simply have to click on the account they want it blocked on, press confirm, and voila. This can also be done by blocking specific genres of gears, hats, and games.
==========================================================
Suggestion Four: Time Limits
In an attempt to make families healthier, some parents have begun to limit screen time. With this feature, parents can set an amount of time their children will be allowed to play ROBLOX. There will be two options for this: total time played and at what time the child can play.
Time Restrictions can be changed through the Parent Account control panel. They will click on a link saying “Set/Update time Limits for this child” and will be taken to the place to do this. On this place, there will be a chart saying “time child is allowed to play” with blocks for every hour Sunday-Saturday. When a parent first comes here, there will be no restrictions, but when a parent clicks on a block or a set of blocks, they will have the option of either allowing the child to play during this time or not.
Below the chart, there will be a “total time allowed on ROBLOX” section. Parents can select the amount of total time per week their child can be in a ROBLOX game. Once the child used up all their time for that week, he or she will no longer be able to play any ROBLOX game for the rest of the week.
==========================================================
Summary:
Parents want to be involved with their children while playing ROBLOX. e notifications, the ability to temporarily disable an account and blocking specific content, and setting time limits can help parent accounts monitor their children. |

roblox used to have parent accounts but they were exploited |

BUMP!
Personally, I have used the parent account as a way to monitor both of my little sisters. When I saw that my little sister was getting warnings every other week for inappropriate discussions, then I knew it was time for me to talk to my parents about her behavior. Now, instead of having my account and my sister's account linked on one family account, I have to find ways to get onto my little sister's account. Of course, this leads to issues with my sister believing that she should have privacy in stuff like that, though she is not mentally mature enough for those responsibilities. |

I know people hate tl;dr askers, but I should notify you people don't like reading massive suggestions.
I am basing this off the title, if you are saying the site needs to get more mature (Not inappropriate, cursing, just mature by growing up in a sense) to suit parents, support. And for parents playing with kids, I have seen it twice, remarkable, except the "dad" had no grammar once. LOL. Support anyways ~

Someone found a way to make parent accs for any player. Hundreds of famous/respected players were safechatted. |

@Alex:
That bug is a bug on ROBLOX's fault. In my opinion, it should have possibly been patched instead of cancelling the program all-together. If they took down the program in order to create a patch for it, I would much rather know about it than be left in the open wondering if it will come back or not.
I do feel that these features will attract parents into knowing what their children are doing online without having to be at their shoulders 24/7. |

An example why this is a bad idea all together: Big Boy Billy knows Little Julie's account's name, and BB Billy gets in a fight with Little Julie IRL. BB Billy creates a parental account for L.Julie, locks her account for the max. time allowed, outlaws all games, gear, fourms, and etc. for Julie, causing Julie to quit and ROBLOX to lose a potential costumer.
TL;DR Version: Parental accounts are abusable, and ROBLOX will lose potential costumers. |

@Angry:
There can be a possible solution for it. When a parent account makes a change, such as blocking certain content, setting the amount of time allowed and the hours of playtime, and locking a child's account, there could be a 48-hour "cooldown" period where the parent account will be unable to perform any of these actions for 48 hours.
As for locking a child's account, ROBLOX could place a limit on how many days a child can be locked out of their account, such as a maximum of 14 days every month.
Also, if one of the child accounts is a verified account, an e-notification system can be used where the e mail of the verified account will receive a message with the actions done on its parent account, with the option to appeal the action to ROBLOX if you declare that the parent account does not belong to your family. The appeal could be limited to only being allowed to use it if the parent account is less than six months old and has performed less than three actions on the verified account.
Of course, ROBLOX could also implement that a parent account must be linked to the EXACT SAME IP of the child accounts, similar to how ROBLOX can ban multiple accounts belonging to the same IP if a user severely violated the TOS.
When it comes to people adding parent accounts to users, I thought that you needed to know the user information (user and pass) in order to link that child to the account, with one account only being able to link to one parent account. |

this whole idea means that parents cannot teach their kids what not do do and how to be safe and use the internet.
If the parents are so worried about their children on roblox ban them |

@Alex:
Parental filtering has been around for ages, but children still rebel at times, particularly online.
I would like to give a small example of how these features can be useful for families. My youngest sister is at the age where, though she has freedom to do what she wants on the internet without constant parental supervision, she still needs to be filtered. My parents want her to be filtered away from themes like violence, adult themes, and vulgarity, so they placed her on Supersafe chat. Supersafe chat only filters out chat content, not everything else. In theory, my little sister could go on a Call of Duty ROBLOX place and be able to see cartoonish violence. With player GUI's creating chat systems so that Supersafe chat users can view chats, my sister can see some vulgarity and possibly adult content.
My parents want her to be filtered from certain content, and with some of these features in my Parent Accounts suggestion, my sister can be filtered away from combat games and gears, specific games with chat GUIs, and the forums. As a result, my parents are, essentially, better parents and able to be at ease knowing my sister will not see a majority of the material they do not want her to see.
It is not bad parenting if parents want specific items filtered. Personally, I am using an internet filter on my laptop right now that filters out severely mature content and sites known to contain malicious software. Just because I am filtering myself does not mean that I do not have the control to monitor where I go online, but I am protecting myself from material I, personally, do not want to see on accident. |

If your kids aren't mature enough to enjoy a kids game responsibly they should not be allowed to go on the internet.
install adblock |

Wizard101 has parental accounts that control chat options, purchase of "Crowns," and etc. I believe this would be a good idea considering another website has success with it. |

Good Idea, Support!
We used to have a parents account tab bar and it's useful to use for under aged 13 year olds, but ROBLOX removed it... once again it might come up. :D

I think you should add a button if the ads are bad (like bad shooting games) then a parent can block that ad. |

I support but I don't they should be mandatory. |

Ok, lets say BB Billy set up Julie's account, so he knows everything about the account info. Then what would happen? |
|
|
@Angry:
Then it can be assumed that BB Billy might be a family member or a really close friend. If he is a friend, he will 100% have a different IP than the IP Julie uses, and, as what I have discussed in possible ideas to prevent abuse, BB Billy will not be able to create a parent account for Jane, as he has a different IP than her.
If BB Billy is family, then it can just seem like an older brother trying to look out for his sister. |
|
|
@ace
BB Billy and Julie are family, but have great sibling rivalry, and recently got in a really bad fight, so BB Billy takes advantage this feature, locks down Julies account when Julie never had any bans/warning, and did nothing wrong IRL. So like I said before, Julie quits ROBLOX, ROBLOX loses a potential costumer. |
