After adjusting my bag, I followed the two. My eyes were glued to the egg in case it started to hatch.
"Monferno, keep your eyes open for any signs of Articuno." I whispered into my pokemon's ear.
"Ferno." she replied, still clinging onto my shoulder with her feet resting on my backpack. |

The air was getting extremely cold. I pulled my jacket tightly against myself. Monferno, sensing my discomfort, pulled her flaming tail close to my face for warmth. I took another glance at the egg. That had to be a crack. I was sure of it now. It didn't look like it was ready to hatch yet, but it was getting close. I wonder what was inside it.
While still walking, I opened up the top of the egg container and felt the egg. It felt suprisingly warm and I quickly moved my hand back away to prevent myself from getting burned. Probaley a fire type. That ought to keep my grandfather from complaining about me having it. Whatever it was, I had already made a promise to myself that I wanted to raise the pokemon inside. Since Blaine didn't seem willing to give me a pokemon to take care of myself, this egg was likely the only way I'd be able to get a starter. As much as I loved my grandfather and despite how much I learned from being a gym trainer, I wanted to go out into the world on my own. Battle some trainers. Catch pokemon for myself. Challedge the gym leaders. If I get strong enough, or just plain lucky, enter a League Conference then take on the Elite Four. Maybe even go against..
