Doesn't need to exist? Barely anything needs to exist, some some things should exist. It would be a way of deleting useless messages in regards to keeping the stuff that poses any importance to us. Support

It's so if you report someone for something they said in a message, you will have proof of the incident.

Well it's your own fault if you look at a message and can't see whether it would pass as inappropriate and not decide report the message directly..
