@mikey 3.141592. @Flunken Because those are characters that make up a sentence, it would be odd to see them in names. Also, names like "Shedletsky." and "lol......."

People could easily make accounts that would be innapropriate or make names that look like others to fool others. Spaces aren't allowed because Guests are "Guest (number)" "." aren't allowed because I could do Shed.letsky. People would be fooled. Same with "!", it looks like "l". I could then do Shed!etsky

The "." and "!" are pretty obvious if you look over it a second time. Like the first few times I saw the "1D" instead of "ID" trick in user profile links it fooled me, but once I looked at the link again I saw the 1. No, your other bottom!
