Intro -------------------------------------- So im guessing you are reading this to get into Retexturing, or the Retexture channel which is the best group to be in if you want to have retextures published. Follow this guide, which will have lots of tips and tricks to help you get in, and become a better retexture-er. Group: http://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=27770 -------------------------------------- Step 1; Learn how to retexture. Basically, you are just saving the texture of a hat, editing it in photoshop or a paint program and replacing it with the old texture. How to: 1. To start off, you need to find a hat or gear which you wish to retexture. Find it on the catalog (ex. http://www.roblox.com/Scrambled-Egg-item?id=106690067) Take the set of numbers at the end of the link and write/copy them down. 2. Next, open up roblox studio. At the top of your screen, click View>Toolbars>Command. This will allow you to see the command bar, which will let you insert the hat you wish to retexture into your game. Open any place in edit mode, and copy this simple script into the command bar. game.Workspace:InsertContent("http://www.roblox.com/asset/?id=?????????????") Remember that set of numbers from the item you found on the catalog? Replace the question marks at the end with that number, and hit enter! Your item is now in your game! 3. Next up is finding the original texture of the hat you want to retexture, then save it to your computer. Open it up in an editing program and edit it as you wish. I prefer paint.net as a program, but thats my choice. Heres an example to a original texture: http://www.roblox.com/RedPaintballMask-item?id=10130613 You can find this by putting the hat you want in your place using the method above, and selecting the model in the Explorer bar, and clicking on the mesh. MeshID = The ID of the mesh, which is the hats shape. Dont mess with this. TextureID = This is the texture, go to the end of this value and find the numbers, like 10130613 and paste this into your browser after the "item?id=" part Save the texture you got from your browser, then proceed to edit it in your paint program. Heres an example to an edited texture: http://www.roblox.com/paintball-item?id=21370755 2. Once you have finished editing it, simply upload it as a decal to ROBLOX. 3. Go back into edit mode and replace the numbers at the end of TextureID with the numbers on your newly uploaded decal, that should replace the old texture on the hat with your new one. If it didnt, you have done something wrong. Re read the steps and try again. -------------------------------------- Step 2; Learning what and when to retexture hats As we all know, things get old. Especially in fashion, which is technically what hats are considered on ROBLOX. We dont want 40 of the same hat, or gear. Certain hats should not be published more than once, like the Dusekkar or OH NOES sign. Other hats, like the :( hats should not be published fast, which is why people still like them today. Dont you agree that those hats would be boring if one was made every week? What im trying to get across is, only retexture certain hats at certain times (like christmas hats during christmas time, not at easter) and dont try to get a retexture published when one already has been a few days ago. It wont work. -------------------------------------- Step 3; Submitting your retextures Now if youve read this far, and think your good enough and ready to get into the Retexture artists channel, form a Set of your Top 10 best retextures. Message this set to either me, or another user ranked Admin in the group. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or message me. Hope this guide helps you understand retexturing, and will bring out the artist in all of you!

Cool. I've always wondered how to retexture hats. I like how neat and easy sounding you made retexturing sound. Although you messed up on the colon in step three. Anyway, nice helpful forum!
