Recently I've been enjoying the new awaited feature, dynamic lighting. I've had a blast, and it has really brought places to life through the power of lighting.
But recently I've realized it isn't very dynamic, at all. And I'll tell you why.
For example, flashlights, they put off light at around the speed of 300,000 kilometers per second, which makes it the fastest thing in the universe. But heres the problem:
If light hits an object, than the light on the other side of that object ceases unless there is a secondary light source behind it.
For example, I shine a light at a wall, the light continues to go through the other side of the wall. The brick doesn't stop the light from travelling, so the light isn't light at all; as it does not behave as light actually would.
The dynamic lighting isn't exactly lighting at all, as the light does have the same laws and features as real light does.
I was just going to put this out here because I feel as if others have experienced this "issue". |

Yes. They need to fix that. |

The reason is because they use Voxel lighting, one of the most lightweight lighting systems there is, due to Roblox voxels being 3x3, there can be light that goes through the walls. |

This is a game about brick people; you really expect things on here to be realistic? |

No... but realistic lighting would be nice. |

I definitely think that this needs fixed. I've heard this as a problem from a lot of people. For what it is though; It's definitely good and a long awaited feature. It just needs some tinkering done to it. |

ROBLOX has said that they want to make thier physics engine as realistic a possible. UMADBRO? Because I'm not. |

That would be nice. I support. |

Support thank you for suggesting this. |

I've noticed this too, and I can tell you it's annoying when your super powerful light from another room is lighting up a room that is supposed to be dark or dim, etc. I also noticed that in places that are very dark and have the old shadows set on, that the shadows are pitch black and you can not light them up like the new dynamic shadows can |

That cannot be fixed on the fly. The lighting is voxel based and voxel lighting works best with other voxels (like terrain). I assume the way roblox handles lighting with non-voxel items (like parts) then it has to do approximations about how the light is shown. Since the size of the voxels are huge, the calculations of the lights are not too acurate. |

The voxels have to be big so the game can work on Ipads or Iphones. |
|

It's because the way the flashlight was built. They did it wrong. |

CJ, no, but maybe if they made it more realistic maybe, we'd have more nice players than trolls coming in.
OP, support.

They are already looking into it. They possibly have currently a way but which might be really CPU heavy. They are trying to make it use less CPU. So yeah.. Be patient pls |

It's an easy process, have the light source with a perimeter of voxels. If the voxels touch other voxels, they stop and do not continue on past it. |

It would be cool to have light bend around corners.
