It would be pretty awesome if Roblox added moon phases. The builder could set this to what ever they wanted it to be, and could add a nice depth of realism in some games. |

Lighting isn't needed? It was still a nice addition. |

He never said lighting isn't needed, he said he didn't want this.
Anyway, I don't really understand this so no support. |

i was giving a counter example. |

could probably be added in a skybox |
|

A lot of that is outdated. Moon scripts as well as other more detailed adjustments to the sky would be nice. Our current system is outdated anyway.

Well it can be added into a skybox, but the main issue with that is its static. If roblox were to add the ability to change the phase of the moon, you could dynamically change it over the course of time you would like. And it could move across the sky as it does now, instead of being locked into place as a skybox. |

brightstorm603,
I agree with you, the roblox sky seems a little outdated and neglected to me. Even skyboxes are extremely limiting. |

People would bring up the oldest argument of ripping of minecraft,So no support sadly |
|

@RedFlyNinja
Who cares? You don't see people saying, "OGM DIS IS A RIPOFF OF TERRARIA!".
The fact that we have it doesn't mean we were copying anyone. Minecraft isn't all original. |
|
|
|
Well its not really ripping minecraft off in any way. All that's happening is that the sky and moon are being updated, and its not like roblox is suddenly going to make them square? You could also say that its ripping of how the earth works, but that doesn't make sense does it?
Anyways, you could claim lighting is a "rip off" of smooth lighting. That's false because light is something in the REAL WORLD. You could blame terrain is a copy of minecraft. But again that's false, minecraft wasn't the first game to use a voxel grid and wont be the last. So you cant blame my idea for updating the sky as being a copy of something else because its not. I just feel it needs to be paid more attention to. |

Have you ever heard of the animation type called "Stop motion" ?
If so, you'll understand what I'm going to say.
I'm working on a script that you can put in skyboxes, but you would need to edit it massivly. It pretty much goes frame by frame each 0.1 seconds. It has random times that it'll pick different moon phases. It would go from day to night, night to day, etc. But sometimes at night there'd be an eclipse or stuff like that.
Pretty much like the animation stop motion, but with decals, in a skybox.

I'v tried that. But getting a smooth and realistic looking sky is VERY hard only because you have to do two things:
Make a ton of skyboxes (by the thousands)
And skyboxes have a very short but noticeable load time. So its almost impossible to get no lag and have 60 frames go by in a game minute. (game minute =1 sec.) |

I have to upload 3,254 pictures so far. I juse realized I'm gonna waste my entire lift doing that.. |
