What if everything you knew of the world was suddenly changed? Every war, political speech, nations' geography, language, date of invention or scientific discovery, and person of historical significance were suddenly non-existent with only the continent's placement remaining the same?
Then this blank canvas would take on a new picture. Brand new nations would have been set up with brilliant new history that would bring a unique light to this completely alternative Earth. New world superpowers would emerge, colonies could become strong empires, and vice versa.
Now imagine if these new nations were to be summed up into a single person. This person would be characterized by its politics, culture, economy, history, geography, and maybe even a little bit of stereotypes. They all speak the world's own universal language even though their accents and sometimes words or phrases of their native nation stand out clearly. These people act as the overall leader of the nation, being born on the founding of the nation and living as long as the nation is around, dying when the country collapses and forms into another nation/nations or is annexed.
Generally the nation's age group is determined by the power of the nation, a brand new colony being a child and a developed nation/superpower being a full-grown adult.
The nation's character usually never does any real fighting but will often be where their main troops are station in the event of one. If that character gets badly injured from a battle then so would the nation and likewise with economic problems.
A nation's character does walk among the citizens but usually they just shrug him off as a regular unless he/she announces him/herself to the populace which could be equivalent to the leader pulling a massive party for their population (or scandals mind the situation). For example, a foreign nation walking in another nation's territory and talking among the citizens could happen but generally it is masked as the overall foreigner's population view on the PEOPLE of your nation, so let's say you're all friendly towards that foreigner's citizens and suddenly the next day that foreign nation's people enjoy the company of people of YOUR nation.
Most of the adventures that these nations go on are either wars, political actions, funded projects, world meetings, and visits from one leader to the other. This will be set in the modern era, the year 1998 and this Earth about the same level of advancement as the 'real' one, although there will be times when there can be flashbacks or just general time skips back to earlier years to recreate a part of your nation's past.
So, what are you going to be? A tyrannical dictatorship bent on making the world bow to you? A democratic free land with excessive civil rights and political freedom? A desolate micro nation that's only concern is to get recognized by the rest of the world? Or maybe even a small colony working tirelessly for independence?
The choice is yours.

Since this thread will feature completely new nations I found a blank map among the Internet. On this map you will load it up to Paint (or whatever other art program) and draw in your borders using the pencil tool, paint bucket it with a color to distinguish yours from others (please use light colors), optionally put in the major cities, and finally put in a text box indicating the name of your nation. Please use Imgur to then upload the new map which the next person will use and update to draw in their borders.
Every single time someone that is accepted, as said above, use their update (the newest one) to draw in your borders.
NOTE:
You can make island nations as long as they're not too big. By big I mean like entire continents.
