It's a development kit for 300 USD, consumer editions are supposed to ship 2015 or so and will be cheaper

After seeing the graphically intense games that have been previewed, I'm leaning towards no. It isn't that graphics makes a game, but if I'm going to put a screen two inches from my face, it can't be blurry. I'm hoping it's only because it records badly to a screen.

I've seen the thing in person, and it's not blurry at all. it's amazing.

Well for anyone interested I had one for a few weeks then sold it again (just wanted to try it). The resolution isn't great, it works for close up objects but as soon as you have distant views (e.g mountains) you notice every single pixel. Motion sickness is an issue for some games less than for others. HL2 was extreme couldn't play longer than an hour at a time. Other than that it's an incredible experience especially the stereoscopic 3D effect where running against a wall makes you fear of hitting your nose. The immersion is incredible.

I will probably get the consumer product when it comes out along with the Reactive Grip by Tactical Haptics. You should check that out btw, seems very cool.

I'm saving my money before I go blow it on a kickstarter campaign that may or may not even go through.

If it's way cheaper than $300 I'll probably look into it; but to be honest I've always liked the monitor paradigm. Hope monitors don't fade out entirely, which is probably likely if they eventually make occulus rift-esque devices that take input via eye motion-- That'd be cool. Perhaps wincing or focussing your eye would trigger input. Any bets on when keyboards, mice and monitors will be retro?
