I did some research and found some stuff on eHow.
According to the site, about:blank isn't a virus, it's a browser hijacker. Symptoms = homepage is different/redirected and when you type an address into the search bar, it redirects you to a virus thing.
And they also stated that you should NOT try to remove it yourself because it messes with your registry, go get an anti-virus specifically designed to target that particular hijacker, or get a professional.
But - I found another site, called Ask-Leo.
According to this site, it states that about:Blank: isn't a virus or anything harmful. However, it COULD be a sign of malware. The default homepage will usually be something of Microsoft's, but if it's not, Tools>Internet Options>General and change the URL to your homepage.
To put it the short way, the page itself is OK, but seeing it isn't as good. Although some people use it simply because it starts up the page faster.
