It lasts less than a second.
Not to mention it was usually activated by stepping on the badge, which usually isn't a factor anymore.
Every aspect of this is scriptable by the people who create the badges themselves. It just isn't mandatory anymore.
I doubt they would remove the sound entirely. It probably still exists somewhere. If not, then I would suggest that they would make it possible to use the sound again.
