Did you read the title and instantly make a decision? What did you choose? Did you pick World and Physics? Or possibly choose Simple and Imagination?
Well, let's see what you picked, but first, read on and maybe I can change what you thought to something else.
World and Physics. I think every game these days is trying to go for that. Don't we all want realistic games with physics involved? Let's walk down a slightly rough asphalt street with our virtual legs moving in the same way our real legs move. Let's step in a puddle and have our jeans get wet, and keep on walking, creating a trail of wet footprints. Realism. Let's add more physics too it, let's let rain drops fall from the sky, pelting the asphalt street you're walking on with your NIKE sneakers. A car drives by us, spraying us with water from a puddle its front wheel hit. Now we're wet on the left side of our body, a awkward line separating the wet and dry side of your clothes. That's real, right? That could really happen if you walk down a street? You could probably go outside right now and have that happen!
Now, Simple and Imagination. Not many games have this anymore, where the entire game is entirely your choice. Most have simple, or most have imagination, but rarely both. Here we could walk down a trail of blue puffy-like clouds, a mesh, obviously, and not very realistic, but creates a cartoonish feel. Your feet move in a slightly weird manor, like that of one who's knees are locked together and jacked up. You step in a pile of liquefied books, and a hole is burned into your leg, words scribed onto it in a strange way. Now let's add more imagination, let's fall! The cloud gave way below you and you fell through time itself, a simple design of random numbers you fall past and lots of colorful blocks encasing you. You hit the ground and you're sitting on the ceiling. A dog who's legs are bubbles and tail is a jetpack flew past you, spraying green sludge in your face. That's a simple design, wouldn't you say? Not realistic, sort of, and full of imagination?
Now, I'll ask you. What honestly feels more fun to you? Would you rather fall through time and walk on clouds and have green goop thrown at you by a dog with bubble legs and a jetpack for a tail, or do you want to walk down the street in rain in the best possible graphics?
I, and many others, might choose walking on clouds. It sounds fun! Now, let's relate this to ROBLOX. In the past there were simple graphics, simple animations, and lots of imagination. In the future, or now, we have more complex graphics, more realistic animations, and our imagination is dwindling. I mean, there is less we can do as we get caged in by physics and realism.
Do not misinterpret what I'm saying, Old roblox was full of glitches and exploiters and so much more. In new roblox we have dynamic lighting which can add nice feel to games! We have all these new really cool things. But somethings... they don't quite match up with ROBLOX. I personally think ROBLOX was originally meant to be a simple game where you could do whatever you wanted, tons of imagination. But as we came along, every other game moving forward into realism, we want to follow. We want the best physics and we want the most realism, but suddenly you realize, you're getting bored of ROBLOX faster! A lot of it is taking away the joy you had when you could place down a simple block and could morph that block into anything you want! Now we can't do as much with that block. Just slightly less. In the future, maybe that block will have only one thing we could do with it! Stack it! It'll look like a simple piece of wood you find in a workshop or a piece of tile you find in Home Depot.
Over these years we've lost our imagination, as long as simplicity. If you look on the front page, what do you see? Games that are extremely expensive and could just be a block absently placed on a baseplate? You see all these games that are realistic, like Apocalypse Rising. That game is fun, it's my favorite, but what happened to the others? Apocalypse Rising is based off another game! It's not an original idea. What happened to the Survive the disasters? It used to be a top game, even with its simple graphics, it had loads of imagination. It's not everyday you get attacked by a time bomb that is ticking and chasing you. I like where graphics are now, slightly realistic but still simple. We've got dynamic lighting, which is really cool, and all that. But our animations are going downhill. I admit the first thing I thought when I started jumping around and viewing the animations was, "Oh my, this seems like ODer paradise!" Because ODer's are roleplayers! I roleplay, but actually having realistic actions like this might be encouraging ODing! It's hard to explain, and it's foolish, but that was my thought.
Now, let's do a tally. Every few posts I'll count up the total.
World and Physics; [number of people]
Simple and Imagination'; [number of people]
This forum post suggests the populations answer. I mean, hey, let's be honest. ROBLOX hasn't been really asking us about this new stuff, right? Also they say people love new roblox, I agree somewhat, but honestly? It's because most people who love it joined yesterday.
Just say what you think sounds more fun and would enhance gameplay. And if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to know why.
Now I should stop typing before the people who read my first word hate my guts and have more reason to make fun of every word I say. |
