If it wasn't recorded in 1080p (or any higher 16:9 resolution), it won't render in 1080p.

Oh but it will, the last prerender I did about 10 minutes ago was 1080p ;3

It will be 1080p, but it will look awful. The rendering process expands/compresses pixels to fit the resolution. Expanding/compressing to a different aspect ratio = bad. Expanding at all = bad
