spacebar doesnt jump automatically when I hold it

When I was in combat at the Greenwood Town I tried rapidly jumping and dodging and stuff and then I don't jump when I hold down spacebar and I get killed? Can someone help me why it is not working when I hold it down?

@Unknown Holding down space bar will allow you to jump repeatedly without pausing.

Holding the spacebar will have a delay in jumping. It's best to rapidly jab your spacebar.
