'Nuff said.
The current can-collidable areas on a wheel are that of the sphere, which makes it hellishly awkward when building vehicles. |
You can just insert a CylinderMesh to a spherical wheel. It works for me. |
I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the can-collide areas of a wheel being that of a sphere and not what it's supposed to be, that of a cylinder (because it's shaped like a goddam cylinder). |
You mean the actual cylinder brick? They have that, but it is ugly. even if you add decals, the white + marks are still there. |
They could just change the way the cylinder brick works. Instead of resizing the way a sphere does, they can resize it like a normal brick. Also they have to remove the white + marks. |
It seems like you still do not understand me. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Take a car with wheels like on the following;
http://www.roblox.com/Chassis-item?id=10479801
and then separate the body from the wheels. Then push one of the wheels around with your player.
You'll notice that the wheel does not roll like a cylinder, but a sphere. My suggestion is to make it (by default) so that it rolls like a cylinder. |
I understand what you mean. But I think the reason the cylinder blocks roll like a ball is because of the way their physics work, which we know is incorrect, because cylinders don't roll the way balls do. They should change that.
I'm just also suggesting they change the way you resize them, so that when you try to make it thinner, they don't resize uniformly. |
Good suggestion, however the radii for the cylinder would need to stay the same all throughout the cylinder for it to work properly as a wheel. So they would have to make the resizing process like you said, individually making it thinner, however, the length and width must have synchronized resizing. |
exactly. Currently the only way I find around this problem is using the ball brick with a cylinder mesh. Besides, it's not like someone is going to blow up the cars at my place, so if the wheels don't break off, then nobody needs to know they're just balls. |

Support, this is something I've thought about recently too. That old cylinder shape is one of the few relics of the pre-2008 era, before they overhauled their system with even cylinder meshes.
They've got more geometric shapes besides blocks and spheres now, and the math behind cylinders isn't much harder to program than that of sphere or wedges. Yet the benefits of such a part go FAR beyond just the use of wheels. |
Yes
For once you could actually make cylindrical platforms which are actually cylindrical. |

Oh, I know what you're saying now after reading it.
Support.

For Roblox to do this they will have to re-write physics engine.
Hold on, gotta bump something. |
I hardly think that's necessary just to change the can-collide area. |
I don't see any rewrite needed. It's just adding a new polygon to the list. As it is they already have wedge parts, spheres, and corner wedge parts, so clearly the ability for such a addition is already there. |
This has been something I've been having to build around for quite some time now, when I am building a building or something with a cylinder shape on the roof, I have to make the cylinder can colloid and make a circle like area that actually prevents users from walking through thus giving it more of a realism when walking on circle shaped floors.

SAW THE FIRST POST. I HAVE WANTED THIS FOREVER, AND I WANT THOSE STUPID LINES REMOVED. BUILDING RAGE. GIVE US DECENT CYLINDERS, AND MAKE US ABLE TO RESIZE THEM IN NON-SPHERICAL BOUNDARIES, REMOVE OUR MESH DEPENDENCY SO I CAN MAKE UH...STICKS AND STUFF! -Utter failure at leading a new group into anything of ASOR, and CEO of bankrupt company ProbeTech, Netprobe |

Ahem, thanks but simmer down.
You can remove the lines, quite simply in fact. Open your place in Edit mode, up at the top toolbar, find an option that says "View", click on Explorer and also click on Properties. Then in Explorer, find something called "Lighting" and click on it. while it's highlighted, look over at Properties and scroll around until you find an option called "Outlines", click the box beside it to uncheck it.

Those are outlines you moron...I'm talking about the cylinder +. Now can some people SUPPORT THIS? |
Then it's not a mesh, is it? It's a circle part.

So you are basically saying that cylinders on roblox work like spheres instead of cylinders? It's been like that for years.
I think that the Devs do have physics improvements in mind. I do know, actually, since Articulated Physics is being made. |

I literally just made a thread on how articulated physics have been utterly neglected(Yep, making that giant mech with motor scripts). I mean come on, HOW SIMPLE IS IT TO MAKE OUR CYLINDERS REAL? |

They are still working on Articulated Physics. |
