Hello, my name is Brighters, and I am a 12'er on ROBLOX.
Now, I thought of an idea, and it's to take dyslexic friendly steps, to improve ROBLOX.
This isn't an easy problem to fix, I understand. But, first, let me tell you how I thought of this idea.
Well, I am a BoD in Kestrel. When I went to interviews yesterday, I met a person with dyslexia. I was amazed by him, especially since he had better grammar than like 70-90% of the people that I ever interviewed. When I asked him if it was difficult to read the text on the screen though, he said yes.
Now this concerned me, as dyslexia affects 15%-20% of the US population.
That means that anyone around you, can be dyslexic. They might not understand the text as well as you do, and as a result, they might feel confused, misplaced, like they don't belong.
ROBLOX supports diversity, which is why I believe this issue needs to be addressed.
So, my idea is to take dyslexic friendly steps, to improve ROBLOX.
Now, Arial is fine as a dyslexic friendly font. But a Spanish study found that "Verdana, Helvetica, Courier, Arial (we already use it though) and Computer Modern, based both on reading performance and subjective preference" were the best font styles.
If any italics and underlines are used on the website, I wish for ROBLOX to stop using them, and use bold instead, as dyslexic people could read the text easier.
The font size should be bigger, like around 12-14, and the background should be tinted a different colour other than white, for improved readability (recommended colours are cream or any soft pastel colour), and the text should be dark.
All of these options can be available under "Account", where there you can choose 'Yes' or 'No' on the option "Choose Dyslexic Friendly Options?". If clicked yes, a box showing all the options will display, and you can check on/off every option.
This means that the options that you choose will also take effect in-game.
COMMENTS:
"ewwww you work at kestrel"
Uh, I don't care that I work at Kestrel! This is a real problem that can be fixed, and your comment doesn't help on the mission.
"Can't someone just spend the money for some software?"
Well, some people don't have the interest to pay for some $100 dollar software. If this happens, word will spread that ROBLOX has dyslexic friendly options, leading to more people playing ROBLOX.
"This is too much work for ROBLOX, they'll start losing money."
Sure, they will lose SOME money, but in the long run, ROBLOX will become better, and appeal to more children, because of the fact that it is dyslexic friendly.
"tl;dr"
Ain't nobody got time fo dat!
My name is Brighters, and I am striving for a better tomorrow. Thank you for reading. :)
