Hit detection gate

I am making a lift toll gate and I am wondering how i can get it open once a person in a car reaches a specific spot and the gate opens, I can get the gate to open with other scripts but I don't know how to do detection for cars.

Maybe put a part that spans across the whole road which is invisible, and you can pass through it, and make a script that searches for a humanoid.
