You peer around the corner to see ten guards surrounding a small block. The block, you know, is the time-travel room, which regenerates its inner layer, the layer that travels, after each round. You overheard a bit of the talk: how it works, the stuff about realities, and so on. But that isn't as important as is getting inside that box. You begin to formulate a plot of how to get past them as you look over to see a glass cup of soda teetering on the edge of a sidewall. Too easy. It's close enough from your hiding corner that you can tap it and let it fall. The perfect distraction.

It's unlikely all ten of them would come and look. Keep waiting and watching, looking for anything else out of the ordinary. If there's two distractions, that would lure more away, and then I can take the one or two on guard, hop in, and dial quickly.

As you wait and spectate, the box begins to shake. Someone's traveling in it right now. You heard it takes roughly five minutes for it to completely leave this place and time until it regenerates and leaves room for the next person. You haven't got much time, but on the bright side, the guards have backed away from the humming box, and some even look slightly afraid of it. After a few minutes of silent waiting, excepting the gradually fading hum of the machine, a new diversion presents itself. One guard sneezes, spraying snot all over himself. A few nervous guards bless him, and two others walk over to the sneezer to help him clean up. These are obviously amateurs, surprising at it may be. Only four guards stand still completely focused, and three more are still at their stations.

Tip the glass. Pause for the reaction. If it's good enough, let's go.

The glass falls onto the cold, hard, cement floor, splattering soda as shattered shards of glass skitter across the ground with a loud, satisfying crash. The remaining guards' heads snap toward the sound's source immediately, then three dash over to the mess. "Janitor!" another one yells. One nervous guard stutters, "Er-I'll be back! It's bathroom break time!" Another guard quickly follows him, holding his pants. There's only one guard still standing his ground now, and he looks a bit nervous now, shifting his weight from side to side and fiddling his fingers.

Do I have a weapon? [also if you need any advice i guess you can shoot me a pm]

Yes. There's a knife you've always kept in your pocket since you stole it last year. You pick up a large shard of glass that fell next to your foot. And now you have two weapons.

Let's not take the shard. Can I get close to the time machine stealthily and enter? If not, can I take the guard out stealthily and enter it?

The nervous guard takes one glance at you sneaking from behind, knife in hand, and dashes. It's all yours now.

Go in. Turn the dial as far as it will go. Hit any button required to make it work.

You hit the GO button, and as you do so, hear a few muffled yells outside that fade away shortly. The room starts to shake, vibrating more and more each passing minute. It'll take a while for you to travel, so while you wait to see where you end up, you ...?

Toy with the knife. I don't think I brought anything else. In hindsight, a DS with pokemon in it would've been smart.

Alas, you're already traveling through time, and it's a one-time gig. No turning back to bring a game or two. As you fiddle around with the knife, time flies by. The box rumbles more progressively, and after a long while, it's hard to stay upright.

Then sit.

#142583610Monday, August 04, 2014 4:08 PM GMT

You sit down on the floor as the box rumbles and shakes. You waver from side to side, time to time. Soon, the room shakes violently, and a screen on the wall has text pop up on it: APPROACHING DESTINATION. PLEASE PUT AWAY ANY AND ALL LOOSE AND/OR SHARP ITEMS.

[Say, when you put maximum amount of years, did you mean when the world ends, or the limit of the time you can go forward?]

[awesome.] After one last rumble, the most violent shake yet, the box grinds to a halt. You watch the screen type out the words: "W-e-l-c-o-m-e - t-o - t-h-e - y-e-a-r---" At that point, it stops, and an error message takes its place. Do you bother to read it? [or are you like, GET ON WITH IT]
