Musically, metal is complex, especially compared to the pop, rock, and rap that dominates the charts nowadays. I'd much rather listen to a 16 minute progressive metal epic that mixes blast beats, de-tuned guitars, and crazy guitar and keyboard solos with a catchy chorus, beautiful chord progressions, and a softer bridge section (I'm referring to "A Nightmare to Remember" by Dream Theater) than a generic 3 minute pop or rap song with a predictable song structure, corny lyrics about love, and the same few chords repeating over and over.

I like most of it...just becuase of the music. Stratovarius in my opinion is the best metal band. I believe the word kill was in only one of their songs. They're motivational. X3

Yeah, Zilla basically summed it all up, for me. Metal is a type of music that has so much potential, and has so many capabilities, that it often just blows any of the other music genres out of the water (Particularly hip hop, etc). Basically, with rhythms and tempos that boggle the mind, I'd rather listen to a shredding guitar solo at 1,000,000 bpm's, then a tacky hip hop song that summarizes those it precedes- the same song with a different name- And all under the consideration that the majority of the modern artists filter their vocals through vocoders, pitch correction devices, and computers. Its just fake... Metal just owns, also. :-D

Just listen to a band that metal. Id recommend Psychosocial by slipknot, My apocalypse by metallica, sugar by system of a down or Evolution by korn. those are different metal styles... each one is a mainstream song...
