I don't even understand why the governments of the world would charge these 90+ year old people for things they did at least 69 years ago, which most (if not all) of them were forced to do by the Nazi government and only did it out of either fear or not knowing that their job was part of something as bad as it was. These people would have been in their early to mid 20s at the oldest and were more than likely part of the Hitler Youth programs at a younger age and were later conscripted and assigned to work as guards in these camps. It's not like they were running anything there, they were just simple guards. It's not even certain that the guards knew exactly what the purpose of the camps was, or that they were killing innocents instead of war criminals. Not meaning to be a Nazi symphatizer here, but charging these people is a huge waste of time and money. |
