And again, materials are shaders, not just textures.

"Then make an image with a bump map, it takes no effort to add bumps and bevels using Gimp" You obviously still have no clue what a bumpmap is. A Bumpmap is a greyscale image used for dynamic 3d rendering on 2d surfaces. You can not make custom bumpmaps in Roblox, as these are shaders that need to be added to the lighting engine.

Actually I have worked with graphic design software before. Bumpmapping can be applied to 2d images inside them (or 3d models if it's 3d graphic design software) and algorithums can be run on that bumpmap to create a render from a specific view with lighting at a specific angle. Since you want to push your ignorance on this so much instead of actually getting educated let me pull some information from the bump mapping wiki: "Bump mapping is a technique in computer graphics for simulating bumps and wrinkles on the surface of an object. This is achieved by perturbing the surface normals of the object and using the perturbed normal during lighting calculations." Oh, oh look at that, DURING lighting calculations. A texture object is rendered without special lighting effects, but a bump map must be handled DURING lighting calculations. Not just Surface rendering calculations, but lighting calculations, because unlike a texture, Bump maps require lighting engines because they have to do with lighting, and in a dynamically rendered game like this, those calls must be dynamic. "There are two primary methods to perform bump mapping. The first uses a height map for simulating the surface displacement yielding the modified normal. This is the method invented by Blinn and is usually what is referred to as bump mapping unless specified. The steps of this method are summarized as follows." Oh, look at that, creating a new normal to use with lighting, rather than just apply a texture onto a surface.

Colorful, just because he wants a "Simple" (write that down) feature, does not (in any way) approve he has never worked at a graphic design, which means you are just throwing false accusions. Also, he is just asking for a SIMPLE feature, which isn't too hard to add, he is not looking for alternatives, simply easy too add instead of going into it that hard to add decals. It's a simple feature, not too hard to add or to ask. Now stop redirecting his suggestion. If you don't like this feature, just tell him why or say "No Support". Simple. ~BusyPeanut~

ExtendFlame, Roblox has no accurate alternatives for materials. The effects created by bumpmaps are not recreate-able through other methods.

You can already make Asphalt. Improvise which material looks closest to asphalt and color it.

One could also say we could have improvised wooden planks, yet Roblox made a wooden plank material which greatly added to the visual capabilities of map design.

It's really hard to tell everyone that this is the SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS forum not the ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO UNIMPLEMENTED CONTENT SO ROBLOX DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE IT forum.

Honestly, I personally see no need for it, not with the concrete material and the dark gray brickcolors. I can't say I support, but I don't not support either.
