Congratulations random person! I have a very real (though arguably irrational) fear of natural disasters, especially tornados. Tell me, how does that make you better than me? |
Whenever there's a tornado warning in my area, I walk outside, and yell;
"TAKE ME AWAY, O GREAT SPIRIT OF NATURE!" |
Like when people accuse me of being scared during a lockdown drill because I curl up in a ball.
Jeez, I'm just trying to protect myself.

Some people are just jerks. Especially here on OT, which is why it wasn't a good idea to post this. Just saying. |

in 1st grade I bawled on a fake tornado drill |

If you can handle it so well, why post about you handling this so maturely?
You cried, they made fun of you, you don't care.
Whoop de doo.
No one else does, either. |

I also used to have severe panic attacks during fire drills.
I don't anymore.

The worst part was then he was like,
"Just talk yourself out of it, idiot. I have OCD, I know what it's like!"
Keep in mind this is an obnoxious one-upper who always has done that, or knows somebody, or knows the cousin of a famous authors daughters friend. Assuming he actually has OCD, which I doubt, that doesn't mean anything. Don't pretend you know how my mind works, I have like five mental illnesses, three of which you've probably never heard of and two of which you most likely have a very limited knowledge of. |

I am genuinely surprised that OT is handling this so maturely. |

when theres a tornado watch i curl up in a ball under my bed and pretend im dead so the tornado doesnt think im alive and kill me. |

Purring, I post here because nobody cares. On OT almost nobody cares about anything, so I can post whatever I need to say, because typing it out makes me feel better, and get on with my life. |
Whenever there's a tornado warning, I spam Reed saying "OGM I JUST SAW A TORNADO!" |
Hey OP wanna go watch into the storm with me |
"so I can post whatever I need to say, because typing it out makes me feel better, and get on with my life."
ah yes of course
I used to do that same exact thing
excuse me, my mind isn't right, I'm up later than I probably should |

Obviously, during any emergency, it is best to try and stay calm, and follow protocol. If it seems like the real thing, and you don't agree with the protocol, do what you need to do to protect yourself. I'm sure (at least in Canadian schools) that you wouldn't be given a detention the day after a crazed gibbon armed with an assault rifle barged into your school.
Oh, and a TORNADO WATCH means that tornadoes COULD FORM OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.
A TORNADO WARNING is when A TORNADO HAS BEEN DETECTED ON RADAR OR BEEN SPOTTED BY A HUMAN.

You,
The protocol was the best they could do, without a basement, the we went outside in the hallways, as every classroom has a window, the teachers watched us and kept us quiet, while the off-duty teachers, guidance counclers, etc, were patrolling the halls helping with issues while carrying walkie talkies. While our teacher threatened to write referrals if we talked (because this was not a drill, and the only details given to us were that there was a tornado warning and to get to the designated shelter-in-place areas for tornados, which was in the hallways against the lockers) we were not punished for making other noises (coughing, sneezing, etc) and she did sit down and talk to me. She's strict, but not cruel.
As for staying calm, I have anxiety, an extreme fear of tornados, it was really windy outside, and kids kept banging against the lockers which kept making noise and scaring me, so that was kind of out of the question. |
My protocol is either look for tornado IF the tornado is not heading for me, otherwise I would be in the basement with 5 pounds of pillows on me :/
-Well, dar she goes!- |
If there is a tornado in my state it is small and lasts 2 minutes. If you want to get over your fear move to connecticut |
