Every style from every country on earth is just classified as a "cartoon" but if its from Japan suddenly its an exception and called "anime" ? |

because anime all have distinct art qualities that make them different from other cartoons |

Anime is "cartoon" in Japanese, no?
What is so hard to understand? Generally, anime tend to have a style that differs from American cartoons, therefor many refer to it as "anime". The way that you presented your statement makes you seem bitter about it...
This can easily be compared to race. What is wrong with differentiation?
America: Comics
Japan: Manga
Korea: Manhwa
You aren't obligated to refer to anything using a general term, so I fail to see the problem. If you would like to use "cartoon" for anime then do it. However, this will probably lead to misunderstandings quickly. |

Anime is literally Cartoon in Japanese.
Comic is literally Manga in Japanese.
If a Japanese conversation brings up the topic of american comics, they will refer to it as "comics" It will most likely happen.
Another example includes:
Why do we call food from China, Chinese food. Doesn't that mean people in China will call american food, American food? |

So, aside from the fact that Anime is more directed towards Japanese cartoons, would Avatar be considered one? It does use the same style of cartoons. |

It may look and seem like Anime, but it's american, so it isn't. |

playing the victim card when there is no instigator nor is there an aggressor is the only thing that would lead to aggressive responses in this thread |

Anime, contrary to popular belief, seems to refer to the style of the cartoon more than it refers to the country of origin.
Don't believe me? Watch Avatar, then discover it was made by an American. |

how does anyone ever think that avatar is "anime" how are people so stupid |

You just expected that to happen or you're extremely sensitive. |

I think it's because anime includes such a large amount of shows and films. I mean, if some other nation started their own type of media, and if it grew as big as anime, it might get it's own name. |
