Microsoft has issued a patch for a severe remote code execution hack that applies to all versions of Windows. This vulnerability is present in all systems that have not been updated today via Windows Update. It allows an attacker to remotely execute whatever code they want on your system simply with your IP address. [Bitdefender] Anyone with the Bitdefender Anti Virus has already been patched, no need to run Windows Update. [More Details] This is a vulnerability in the Windows platform's communications between client and server, meaning if you can connect to the internet, you're vulnerable unless you have updated. Desight out.

Ah, XP is an interesting point. I can't imagine Microsoft would let XP be openly vulnerable like this, so I think they'd make an exception and push an update to it. But I can't say for certain. Were there any updates available when you ran Windows Update on XP?

If this is so important then it would be on Microsoft website and they would force you to update. Important updates are installed straight away.

@sherlockedholmes Go to Control Panel, and look for Windows Update. Click Check For Updates, and when it finds some, hit Install. You will probably need to restart your PC to finish applying changes. @Meands13337 There's no functionality on Windows to force an update, that'd likely result in a lot of issues. And I don't think putting it on their website will help, they want to keep their sales incoming and they do not want to scare new users away. @iBlackhat I wouldn't be talking. Linux had a vulnerability recently, too (Shellshock) that was in the GNU bash software and was very dangerous.
