I'm not sure, but I think windows 8 automatically updates.

@Cudbert Well, if you restart your PC regularly then it likely did automatically update. I am on 8.1 and it updated on its own, but it's still asking me to restart to finish applying the changes. :P

@Cudbert That's what I meant. Shutting down and turning your computer back on is what I consider 'restarting' and likely automatically updated your PC for you. :P You're fine, no need to reboot again.
