The NIAID has been working with VRC and GSK has been developing a vaccine for a disease that statistically killed 7,000 and infected around 15,300 people all over the world. It's been said that they first tested the vaccine on monkeys which prevented them from the virus.
20 volunteers were injected with the vaccine and sources says it showed no damages or side effects. The vaccine contains 2 strains of the virus, the "Sudan" and the "Zaire", which is inserted into an adenovirus 3 which doesn't cause any disease(s) in humans. As was anticipated, the vaccine produced antibodies against the Ebola within four weeks of the injection. It triggered an immune response which helps the body prevent from proliferation of the virus.
From my point of view, I still think there will be minor consequences while testing this vaccine. Main reason being is that it can produce antibodies. Yes, antibodies fights off infection and other diseases, but it can quickly turn on you and make you sick, but that's a rare thing to see. |
