Doing sit-ups is good, because most of your fat is stored in that area.
Also, for trying to stay low on calories, it's more of how much you eat rather than what you eat.

I'm averaging 1900 calories a day which i can easily lose weight at, and i decreased that to 1500
Hopefully I'll hold out and by new years be 30 pounds lighter (a pound a day is easily possible at the weight i'm at) |

i'm already walking a lot, generally after school a mile and before school, and i do want to add cardio and some basic exercises to the mix |

Many people fail their weight loss because they ate too much salad or whatever's healthy.
Don't go on fad diets.
Many will just make you get fat as soon as you stop. Atkins diet is the best for you, except it skips carbs.
Eat WELL.
Fruits, wheat breads, anything NUTRITIOUS. Don't skip the carbs. Skip the ranch on salad. Avoid vegetable oil. Fruit juices are less nutritious than fruits, so just eat the fruit and drink water when you're thirsty.

Exercise.
Focus on cardio. Weights will help.

eat the normal calories but like add veggies and stuff
also make a workout plan
