league of legends has a toxic community but honestly you need to start there because it's the easiest MOBA to understand
dota 2 is WAYYYY more complicated because: items take a while to understand, the balancing is basically where every hero is OP in their own way, some might be useless, but still, by every hero being OP, that means every hero will have a hard counter that makes them garbage, so you'll have to understand that, turn times take a while to get used to, maintaining mana is VERY difficult at first so getting adjusted to that will be frustrating, etc.
still, try out league of legends first, then switch to dota 2 when you understand how a MOBA works, because honestly i've been playing league of legends for over 2 years and trying out dota 2 was even hard for me to get used to

you can set it where you only meet people that speak english and its worked for me so try that |

from what i know about lol you get champions and theres also these ai-controlled minions and you gotta destroy towers and then you gotta destroy the enemy base and you get money by killing stuff which you use to buy good items for your champion so you can destroy stuff more
and from what i know about dota2 its sorta similar to lol |

just wandering btw does league has any kind of system that filters out the toxic players? like in dota 2 if you get enough reports, or you abandon games, or get excessive mutes you get globally muted and put into low priority match making? |

every moba game has the same premise
however
dota 2 is literally a whole new game and not even close to the same as lol just by how it's set up
but yeah that's basically lol in a nutshell

I'm a DotA player and i say yes, DotA is fun to play and requires strategy and teamwork. The community in DotA isn't friendlier than in Lol, i never played Lol but i don't rarely see flaming in DotA because a death in DotA is punished harsh and can affect the whole theam. In your first matches you are playing against people who just started anyway, so you have time to understand everything, because even Lol is different, so if you play Lol first you need to understand the hardest part to understand: the abilities of the heros and the items, so play DotA first and you understand it earlier. |
