Merry Christmas everyone (or happy holidays, either one).
A few games are already in the books, and I've heard that a certain group of people (or a single person) was really wanting this as a present, so I'm delivering, and early at that! No games in the next two days, that's one present, and this edition of 4:00am power rankings would be my other gift! Wishing you all a wonderful break and a bunch of sleep, which I am not going to get tonight!
With every list this season, we will conclude with a "THREE STARS OF THE WEEK" list. Each player will get a certain amount of points for placing a star, 3 for first stars, 2 for 2nd, and 1 3rd. Throughout the season, we will tally up points. The person or people with the most "star points" at the end of the regular season will be in for a treat (:)). Remember, this is for the entire league, and can be anyone for anything - most goals, best +/-, best coaching, best SV%, etc.
== BEGIN RANKINGS ==
[01] TORONTO WOLVES -- 3-0-0 (6 pts) -- Last week: N/A
The Wolves are off to a massive start, and I mean massive. Their win against the Winged Hussars really proved themselves to be a power team and a team that could beat just about anyone when they give it their all. They are currently only one of two teams that are undefeated at 3-0-0, and there might be a couple more after the league comes back from break, but they are certainly a team deserving of that title.
[02] ONTARIO REIGN -- 2-0-0 (4 pts) -- Last week: N/A
The Ontario Reign just happen to be the only team without a goal against thus far. Maybe the forfeit has something to do with it, but their win against the Duluth Miners was also very convincing. On one series of power plays, Ontario did not score just once, they scored TWICE. It all combined to a 4-0 Ontario lead after the first, which ended being the only period the game went to.
[03] SANDY BAY HAVOC -- 3-0-0 (6 pts) -- Last week: N/A
7-1!? You're joking. The Havoc completely OBLITERATED the Ottawa Red Foxes, a team that shows some promise throughout the season, and they made them look like the TOLEDO WALLEYE from WAY BACK. Sorry Ottawa, this was not the game you would like to remember. As for the Havoc, very well played, and for it, you get a spot in the top 3 in the league (top 2 at the moment). Can I get an "OOOO YEAH"?
[04] WARSZAWA WINGED HUSSARS -- 2-1-0 (4 pts) -- Last week: N/A
After the intense first couple of games toward the end, the Hussars finally hit their breaking point. It was a sad night indeed for them, but there's plenty of time to rebuild and keep moving on. Plus, the loss really didn't hurt them that much. They're still sitting second in the conference and fourth in the league.
[05] MOOSE JAW SORCERERS -- 1-1-0 (2 pts) -- Last week: N/A
Look at the Sorcerers, the first team to put double digits on someone this season. Impressive start for a team that was basically scraping for cents right before the season started. Their main manager, Alphadraco, hasn't even shown, and they were able to come out with two of their first four possible points.
[06] MONTREAL BLIZZARDS -- 1-1-1 (3 pts) -- Last week: N/A
Don't you just love it when a team gets every single result possible in the first three games? Better yet, they got each one backward, starting with the OT loss, then getting a regular loss, and then turning it around and winning against Riga. Impressive showing against the Hussars to push overtime as well, not something to be upset about.
[07] CALIFORNIA GOLDEN SEALS -- 1-1-0 (2 pts) -- Last week: N/A
Good start as the Seals were able to pick up an exciting two points after coming back against the Sydney Sloths. It ended on a sad note, not getting any against Warszawa, but then again, they also almost forced overtime against them. Still, almost is just almost, and a loss is a loss nonetheless. Back to it after the break.
[08] SYDNEY SLOTHS -- 0-1-1 (1 pt) -- Last week: N/A
Okay, so I know these guys don't even have a win yet, but at least they had a good start against California, and they actually played a game to earn their spot. They ended up forfeiting to Ontario, but they showed themselves a bit at least I guess.
[09] OTTAWA RED FOXES -- 1-1-0 (2 pts) -- Last week: N/A
Okay, come on, come on, come on. First off, I had to remind everyone to show to their season opener. Second off, when I showed up to the Sandy Bay game, I was dumbfounded. What the #### happened to you guys? Did you all like go to the bar and then get your fingers chopped off getting a drink or something right before your game? Bleh.
[10] SAN DIEGO BEARS -- 1-2-0 (2 pts) -- Last week: N/A
Many people wanted to leave after their 2-9 loss to Toronto, but since they played Riga they picked up a win in their second game, which brought them to .500 and almost a playoff spot. Don't get excited though, they didn't show up to their game on Tuesday.
[11] DULUTH MINERS -- 0-2-0 (0 pts) -- Last week: N/A
10 goals allowed, huh. 10. FREAKING. GOALS. I know you guys have not forfeited an entire game yet, but you make it awfully hard to put you over the Dinamo, who also do not have a win (see below, for now).
[12] DINAMO RIGA -- 0-3-0 (0 pts) -- Last week: N/A
Hey, hey, hey! They made themselves a presentable performance against the Blizzards, only losing 3-5 and not forfeiting this time! Maybe by the end of the holiday break there will be a new owner and a few more people that can save this team from disaster.
