I had an idea for a competition (or not) where contestants would be given 6 prompts which were only a small collection of words, which would give ample room for creativity. The contestants could post each story they finish, but the stories would all have to be compiled on one thread in the end once all six were written. Anyway, here would be the prompts. I'm also thinking of calling is "Six-Shot Story Challenge." 1. Bones 2. Around the Bend 3. Destination 4. Cumbersome Tragedies 5. What Remains 6. On the Shoulder of Giants There would be some rules, like there having to be at least 1500 words in each story and such. -------------------------------- Anyway, would you guys like for this to be a real thing? I think that we don't do enough story writing here anyway, so I feel that this would be a nice change. Also, if you suggest some word/word collections that you think would be better than the ones above, don't hesitate to tell me about them. YES OR NO? i'll still do it myself if nobody wants this because I like it.

?... This seems... Interesting... I advocate on doing this, because; Heck, it could be a good side hobby for some people and help get people writing.

It intrigues me, to say the least. Not sure if I'd be able to participate, due to the fact that my inspiration often departs me at inopportune times, but the idea intrigues me.

A challenge? I find this a jest! No one can match my superior writing talents! What say you, other challengers?! I vote YES! Create this competition, for I shall emerge victorious!

Well, lots of interest in only a few minutes. Awesome. I was actually leaning toward not making it a competition so people could have all the time in the world to make these stories. I wanted feedback first, though.

I second Swedish, as I challenge the smug man who boasts he will surpass all!

Then you shall face the burning pen of a true AUTHOR, oODwagonxX! Prepare to shed ink like there's no tomorrow! by the way I won't actually use ink or pens to write. I'm writing it on a computer because HOW ELSE

@Swedish Making it a competition may take a lot more organization and it would require me to get judges who may be partisan to some users, thus it could ruin the entire competition, not letting the best writer get the proper recognition. That's why I'm thinking of having it just be a creative outlet for RP users where there are no time-frames and everyone could have a good time. If more people "demand," it though, I'll see what I can do for sure.

Cool, I'm thinking about rolling this out tomorrow, since everyone is loving it. I'll list at around the same time - 8:30 or so, and the gates will be opened. @Dwagon & Swedish If you guys want, I can grade your stories solo, but I'm only one person so the results might not be exactly accurate. Other than that, like I said before, I'm thinking of this being more or a creative outlet rather than a get-your-entries-in-now-competition sort of deal. It will be more mellow that way and nobody will be pressured into anything, so I think that this will overall allow everyone to produce some really awesome content.

Could you clarify what you mean by "cumbersome" tragedy?

Well if I do it willingly, migt be able to get it in. Twice as big than what I usually wrote in school, but those were essays. I hated essays.

Well, the official definition of cumbersome is as follows - "slow or complicated and therefore inefficient." What one would immediately think from that is something large-scale going down, say Armageddon. That's not original right? That's why the word collection is so vague; so that way the writer can dive deep into their creativity realms and pull something out that is truly original. That sum it up for you?

oh yeah and I added tragedies onto that explanation after the definition

I'm all for this. Though you're right about the difficulties of making this a competition. I say make it a themed event that could either have random prompts like the six you just listed or at certain times they could always be themed. These events could happen every so often and, like you said, would create a rather fun-loving creative outlet for several of the participants here in this sub-forum. However, to be sure that participants still have a little bit of encouragement, you could always host a vote at the end of the allotted time for submissions. There can be a first, second, and third place. Everyone in this sub-forum could read the stories and say yea or nay. Count the votes, and point out the place holders. That way it still holds some measure of competitiveness to it.
