My idea of it is that if you are not of Japanese descent, then you should be calling it either, "Japanimation", or simply "cartoons".
"Anime" is the Japanese word for "cartoons". Simply put, if you aren't actually learning Japanese, or speaking it, or aren't from Japanese descent, then the term to you, isn't "anime".
"Anime" should be a Japanese dialect, in the Japanese region mainly. Not over in the west or Europe, IMO.
For now on, I'll start to try to get in the habit of typing up cartoons, or Japanimation.

If you find someone using the term "otaku", you have free will to nuisance them as much as you want. |

And Anime has been adopted by English speaking countries as the word for Japanese animation. Why do you have a problem with this? |

anime and cartoons have similarities but arent same thing
like how car and truck are diff but both vehicles
if someone ask for cartoon you can give either if they ask for anime you give DBZ or other japanimation

The problem with the current way society things about anime is "big bccbs" "hen tie" and attracts the 12 year olds who can't process much to troll.
But it you hear "cartoon" you're just fine with it. And you probably will think of "anime" when you hear "Japanimation", but you most likely won't think about things like "big bccbs" or the other stuff.

are you stupid, it's a loan word you dolt, we are using it to describe something specific, we get words from other languages and so do other languages get from english |

And if "Japanimation" becomes popular people will think exactly the same thing soon enough. It's not the name that gives off this image, it's the content itself. And cartoons are commonly viewed as immature shows for kids, or adult comedies with obscene humor. It has just as poor a reputation. |

That's sort of a gray area. It depends on what you classify as Anime. If you believe that Anime is simply Japanese animation, no if and's or buts Avatar isn't anime. If you believe Anime is just the style commonly used by Japanese animators, then anything that borrows that can be anime.
Regardless calling it anime is usually fine, unless you are speaking with either a hardcore weaboo or Avatar fan, who will probably suffer a mental breakdown at the thought of Avatar being "anime." |
