This is a horror game based off of the catacombs in paris. Right now there it is only like 5% done. But in that 5% there is 2 jumpscares. And I will not spoil them. I wanted to see if people liked the creepy and unsettling atmosphere and they liked the building. When I played I really liked the atmosphere but I wanted someoned opinion. http://www.roblox.com/The-Lovely-Bones-place?id=198547596 Turn Your Sound Up.

Jumpscares are incredibly cheap. Good horror relies on instilling a sense of dread and paranoia by setting up an atmosphere and conditions that make you fear for your character's life. Amnesia and SCP are great examples of games that use this, and Slender uses it coupled with an actual jump scare. ~Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors!~

Yes amnesia and slender and SCP have a rather good atmosphere. But they still have jumpscares. Its like the same thing as mine. And im not trying to make it a GOOD horror game. I just wanna make one people like. And thats different.

@fancy I just did. The scares you put in are very cheap. I admit that the first jump scare involving the skeleton startled me slightly, but nothing instilled me with a legitimate sense of fear. Also, your game lacks a gripping story or setting, something that both Amnesia and SCP succeeded in doing. Without a story or setting, there is no context for any of the scares. (Also, those weird triceratops skulls that flash seizure effects are not scary.) ~Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors!~

"Right now there it is only like 5% done. " Its in the description. And the things that you said I will put in later/make later. Right now im just focusing on making the game. And which skeleton jumpscare? Also "(Also, those weird triceratops skulls that flash seizure effects are not scary.)" Thats an opinion.

@fancy The skeleton that pops out right when you turn the corner. However, to quote Viral from Gurren Lagann: "Tricks are tricks: they only work once." This means you can't rely exclusively on jump scares. Jump scares should really only be used as a "Game Over" thing, otherwise they don't add anything to the overall game. Also, I don't see how the seizure skull is scary. All it does is make static noise and flash threatening phrases at you. I don't see how anyone could find it scary. Even if you thought it was scary, you don't want to give anyone seizures, do you? ~Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors!~

However. If you die often they wont scare you anymore. And as you said the jumpscares only work once. And jumpscares only used as a "Game Over" sign are for games where something is chasing you or trying to get you like with jumpscares throughout the game. I have different jumpscares for each part. But considering its a maze and some ways go in circles you might get the same jumpscare twice. I understand that it could give you seizurs and stuff. So ill just put a warning that this game includes flashing lights and stuff.

As I keep saying, your game in its present state is not scary at all. The atmosphere is fine, but the "scary" things you add in have no depth and don't instill any fear. Since this is a maze game and there are no enemies hunting you down, I recommend you ditch the scares and focus exclusively on having an unsettling atmosphere. This would actually make the horror in your game be more subtle, and make it unique. Also, I want to ask: Why does your game share a name with a novel about the murder of a young girl? ~Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors!~

I liked the idea, but you need a story line, why is the person going in the catacombs (Because nobody would be that dumb to go at spooky dark catacombs at night time), and you should work on the sound effects, add details to the map, and you should really make it only 'LockFirstPerson'. By the way nice thumbnail.

The Idea is really good, if you have ever been to the french catacombs, you would die of fright. Just the skulls alone would scare you. The scares are a little cheap, but affective.

The fact that all the passages look the same, makes you forget where the jump scares are. Causing it to scare me more then once.
