tl;dr: Allow users to wear badges on their character.
(Someone might have beat me to the punch on this, but S&I just has too many threads to wade through.)
I suggest that badges be made wearable on characters. It would be a fun way to show off your accomplishments wherever you go, instead of just on your user profile.
In character customization, you would be able to choose up to 5 badges (subject to tweaking) from your inventory to put on your character. For each badge, you would choose from a series of preset locations. (Upper-left chest, Right sleeve, etc.) The only non-wearable badge would be the Administrator badge. People could make "forgeries" to trick people in-game, so stating that the Administrator badge cannot be worn would make such forgeries harder to deceive with.
In-game, a new character appearance object called BadgeSet(?) would be added that would allow badges to be displayed on characters. It would have two properties for each badge: BadgeID (ID of a badge) and BadgePosition (Where it's located, such as right lapel or left sleeve). Just like Shirts and Meshes, a corresponding one of these would be loaded for every character respawn.
At this point, I'm slightly conflicted... I think the BadgeSet's properties could be set to read-only, to prevent developers from allowing players to wear badges they don't have, and to prevent exploiters from giving themselves such badges. On the other hand, I can see how that could limit some creativity on the developer's side. What do you think? |
